Megan Melancon Parrish – 1960-2014

On Sunday, Nov. 30, my sister Megan suffered a brain hemorrhage which caused a tremendous buildup of pressure, leading to a stroke. Surgery was, unfortunately, not an option due to underlying medical conditions, so we had to wait and hope. Things did not progress well, however, and after 10 days, and in accordance with the wishes spelled out in Megan’s advanced directive, her husband, with consultation with family had to make the difficult decision to remove her from life support. She died on December 10.

Adieu ma soeur.

    hello.

i was a student at Georgia College, one of her American Literature students. Dr. Melancon was one of the first professors who encouraged me to write freely and view everything as being connected. An element I take seriously in my young adult life.

I was applying to graduate school for my MFA and thought her, thought about you Doc. You were and are one of the biggest influences in my life and will look to dedicate this degree to you. I will never forget our talks in your office and my scribbling on your board. Peace out doggie, woof.

It’s 2020 and I’m just learning of Megan’s death. We were in French class together at Belaire High. I really liked her, and feel terrible about her passing. Best to her husband and family.
