Today we had a storm shelter installed. It’s something we’ve been meaning to do since we moved in. We elected to go with a subterranean model that’s installed in the floor of our garage. When it’s in the garage, you can get to the shelter without having to go outside, which is nice, as there are often hailstorms that precede tornadic weather.  At the old house, when Margaux was 3 months old, I had to get in the outdoor shelter with her. But it was hailing at the time. Three month old babies get irritated when they’re hit in the head with hail.

I thought the installation process was pretty interesting, so I’ve put together a slide show of the installation. The company we used was Ground Zero Shelters, out of Perry OK.
